The Chair of the Social Studies Dept. at East High School, Shane Atkinson, taught an innovative history class last year on Genocide. As part of the class, he and several students raised money and went on a trip to Germany. Student Emily Wood was one of the participants in the trip and told the club Nov. 12 how the trip had changed her view of the world. Asked how she felt entering a notorious Nazi death camp during their trip, Emily replied, "it doesn't seem real until you've been there."

One of the most important life lessons the students learned, she said, was that you should speak out whenever you see wrong in the world.

East High Graduate Lynn Birleffi, herself a History major (and wife of former club president Phil Noble) supported the trip and introduced Shane and Emily.

Past President Roxanne Ostlund told Emily she would make a great Rotary Peace Scholar, something Roxanne said she will look into.
